A live map of your neighborhood, and a note from the person who built it.

PinScene is a map where neighbors post pins of anything that interests them.

Open it and hopefully you see pins around wherever you are. Found an interesting food truck that nobody is talking about? Post a pin about it. Got a question about where the best garage sale is around you? Post a pin about it. Each pin sits on the spot it's about, and each one clears off the map after a few hours or days.

Right now there are about 3,000 live pins across more than two dozen U.S. cities, from New York to Seattle. Atlanta is where I live and where the map is busiest and people told me to first try to build up one particular area first rather than concentrate everywhere.

What to do with it

We only have a couple hundred registered users right now as we launched just recently so I hope you can post pins, answer questions, and the app can grow organically. Ultimately though, it's word of mouth that will help us grow the most, so I hope you can tell a friend about PinScene as it would help us out a lot. We hope you post when you see something, and it takes about fifteen seconds. Ask a question when you have one, since question pins are the one kind of pin your neighbors can answer directly, and the answered ones stay up as a page after the pin itself is gone.

The app is on the App Store and Android Play Store. The website works fine too but it is optimized for the mobile app.

After running allkpop.com and building it to millions of readers and eventually leaving, I built this because I was bored one day and never knew what was going on where I lived until weeks after everyone else did. If it does that job for you, tell me what's missing. If it doesn't, tell me that too. I'll read all of it, you can contact us at [email protected]

Frequently asked

What is PinScene?

A live map of what is happening near you. Pins show road closures, new businesses, events, incidents, and neighbor questions, each placed on the spot it is about, and each expiring after hours or days.

Where do the pins come from?

Two places. Neighbors post them from their phones, and the rest come from local sources: neighborhood news outlets, university papers, city traffic and transit feeds, event listings, and new business openings.

Is PinScene free to use?

Yes. The map, posting pins, and asking questions are free on the website and in the iPhone app. No account is needed to browse, though posting and answering require a quick one-tap sign-in.
